    Studying at a cooking school or culinary school can turn a good cook into a professional chef and, fortunately, you have many options to earn the right degree to help you advance your career.

    Although experience in a kitchen or working as an assistant or sous chef is also valuable for an aspiring executive chef, attending cooking school to earn a certificate, bachelor degree or associate degree can also fine tune your skills and management abilities to help you reach your goals in the culinary field.

    A top chef needs to know more than just how to cook. As an executive chef, you must also know how to lead, inspire and even teach. A bachelor or associate degree may be just what you need to make the transition from an ordinary chef into a spectacular one.

    Increase Your Knowledge and Skills by Attending Culinary School

    The head chef is someone who is in control of the menu, cooking and the staff in any kitchen. Not only does it take a level of commitment and motivation that not all cooks have, but it takes education and experience as well.

    Few executive chefs are able to find lucrative careers or commercial success without first attending cooking schools or culinary schools. If you have a desire to one day control a kitchen or restaurant, then consider attending cooking school to do so.

    A cooking career does not guarantee success, a high income or even a steady position. However, once you have reached the pinnacle of culinary success as an executive chef, your career options will likely expand accordingly.

    Typically this kind of chef will act as the head of the entire cooking staff whether that is five employees in a small restaurant or forty employees in a large kitchen. The hospitality industry is a large draw for top level cooks.

    Working in a spa, hotel or airport means that you will serve primarily tourists and travelers who typically have a larger budget for eating meals outside of the home.

    Some executive cooks decide to work for themselves and start a private business. This might be a fusion restaurant in a city known for their hospitality industry or even a catering company in a rural area.

    The options are nearly unlimited at this high level of cuisine and the top rated chefs are in huge demand around the world.

    Attributes of a Successful Executive Chef

    A successful head chef will first and foremost need to be skilled at cooking delicious dishes. You will also need to be creative enough to come up with new entrees and appetizers, be knowledgeable enough to incorporate exotic ingredients and be friendly enough that staff are happy to work alongside you in the kitchen.

    The best cooks will also be leaders in the kitchen and know how to manage and control staff. An executive chef is typically expected to work long hours and be at work during the evenings and the weekends, which are the two busiest times for most restaurants.
